Hyperbaric Chambers for Home Use

Most people buying a hyperbaric chamber for home use need a 1.3–1.5 ATA soft chamber: it is lighter, easier to place and costs far less than a hard shell. Choose a hard shell (1.5–2.0 ATA) only if you need higher pressure, an upright sitting or wheelchair-friendly entry, or clinic-style equipment. Every chamber below lists its working pressure, entry type, footprint and oxygen setup so you can compare like for like. Not sure where to start? How to choose a home hyperbaric chamber

Three decisions set the price and the experience: pressure (ATA), shell type and body position. Get these right and the rest (oxygen concentrator, cooling, intercom) follows.

TypePressurePrice rangeBest for
Soft shell, lying1.3–1.5 ATA$7,499–$9,880Daily home wellness sessions, smaller rooms, portability
Soft shell, sitting / wheelchair1.3–1.5 ATA$5,950–$11,499Users who can't lie flat or climb in; easy transfers
Hard shell, single person1.5–2.0 ATA$13,450–$45,999Higher pressure, window views, clinic-style comfort
Hard shell, multi-person1.5–2.0 ATA$17,950–$59,900Families, practitioners, wellness centers

Soft shell vs hard shell

Soft chambers are fabric (TPU) with zippers, weigh far less and can be stored or moved. Hard shell chambers are steel, aluminum or carbon fiber, reach 2.0 ATA, and feel roomier because of windows and a rigid door. If you plan to use HBOT several times a week for years, a hard shell is usually the better long-term buy.

Space, power and set-up checklist

  • Measure the room: lying chambers need roughly 8 ft of length plus access space.
  • Most units run on a standard 110–120 V outlet; the compressor and oxygen concentrator need ventilation.
  • Check floor load for hard shell models before delivery.
  • Ask your physician before starting any hyperbaric protocol, especially for a medical condition.

Hyperbaric Chambers for Home Use: frequently asked questions

How much does a home hyperbaric chamber cost?

At Selected Comfort, soft shell home chambers start at about $7,499 and most sit between $7,500 and $11,500. Hard shell single-person chambers run from about $13,450 to $46,000, and multi-person hard chambers go up to about $59,900. Free shipping and financing are available.

What is the difference between 1.3 ATA and 2.0 ATA?

ATA is the total pressure inside the chamber. 1.3 ATA is about 30% above sea-level pressure and is typical for soft (mild) chambers. 2.0 ATA doubles sea-level pressure and needs a hard shell chamber. Higher pressure raises the amount of oxygen dissolved in the blood, but it also raises cost and the need for medical guidance.

Do I need a prescription for a home hyperbaric chamber?

Hyperbaric chambers are medical devices, and using one to treat a medical condition should be done under a physician’s care. Talk to your doctor before starting sessions. Our team can share the specification sheets your doctor may ask for.

Is a soft or hard shell hyperbaric chamber better for home use?

Soft shell chambers are lighter, cheaper and easier to fit in a bedroom, making them the most popular home choice. Hard shell chambers reach higher pressure (up to 2.0 ATA), have windows and rigid doors, and suit frequent long-term use, families or practitioners.

Can a hyperbaric chamber plug into a regular outlet?

Most home chambers, including soft chambers and many hard shell models, run on a standard 110–120 V household outlet. Larger multi-person hard shell chambers may need a dedicated circuit. Check the specification tab on each product or call us to confirm.

Can you buy a hyperbaric chamber for home use?

Yes. Soft 1.3–1.5 ATA chambers and hard shell chambers up to 2.0 ATA can be bought for home use and shipped to your door. Talk to your physician about whether hyperbaric oxygen therapy suits you before ordering.

What size room do I need for a home hyperbaric chamber?

Measure the chamber's footprint plus about 2 ft of working space on the entry side, and check doorways, hallway turns and stairs on the delivery route. Hard shells also need a floor that can carry their weight.

What ATA is best for a home hyperbaric chamber?

For most homes 1.3–1.5 ATA is enough. Choose 2.0 ATA only if you have a specific need for higher pressure."
